Alan Traynor

Head of Year 11

My name is Mr. Alan Traynor and I am from the West of Ireland. I attended National University of Ireland, Galway, where I completed a Masters in Education (Geography) in 2016. I have a keen passion for sports and like to socialize with friends and family.

I moved to the UAE in August 2017 and am now entering my seventh year at Gems Metropole. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school to date and hope it continues for many more years to come. I have been Head of Year 7 for the past three academic years but will be moving to Head of Year 11 next year. I am really looking forward to getting to know the year 11s and supporting them in the build up to their GCSE exams.

In my classroom, I like to create an atmosphere where everyone has an opportunity to speak and share their thoughts. I also like to ensure that every lesson is engaging, fun and worthwhile for the students. I tend to have a great relationship with my students and look forward to building upon these relationships further when we return in September.

This past year had its challenges at times as we began the year still wearing masks in a covid world but it has been a big step in the right direction and I have been so impressed with how the students have shown their ability to adapt to their environments and continued to strive in the classroom. The school has continued to improve also and this was evident in our KHDA inspection where the school received a rating of ‘Good’ for the very first time.

As one school year ends, I am already looking ahead to the next school year and I look forward to welcoming new and old faces for the 2022-2023 academic year.
