The Farm Shop

The Farm Shop at MTS provides a powerful platform for students to develop leadership skills and apply their learning in a meaningful, real-world context. Our Forest School students take responsibility for nurturing homegrown produce through our hydroponics systems and school farm, while our Future School students take the lead in marketing and selling the harvest. This cross-phase collaboration allows students to demonstrate environmental stewardship and entrepreneurial thinking in an authentic and integrated way. Through this initiative, students not only bring their learning to life but also exemplify key High Performance Learning attributes such as collaboration, agility, and resilience.

The Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, using water and nutrients to support healthy growth. In our Forest School, students from FS1 to Year 2 explore hydroponics as a hands-on way to learn about nature, sustainability and where food comes from. By caring for the plants and observing their growth, children develop a sense of responsibility and an early understanding of environmental stewardship, nurturing a love for the planet through fun, hands on learning.

The Farm

The Farm at MTS offers fantastic hands-on learning experiences and fosters strong community connections. We emphasise raising pupils' environmental awareness and providing real-life learning scenarios. Our goal is to create a positive and socially aware environment, educating not only our students but also their families about the immense benefits of sustainability

SDGs

GEMS Metropole ensures that all activities and events in the school promote Sustainable Development Goals, helping students to prepare for their future and contribute positively to the world.

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Agenda, adopted in 2015, includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. Countries around the world have committed to taking action to meet these goals, such as ending hunger and poverty, creating sustainable cities and communities, and making health care available to all.

Student quotes

"I love visiting the farm because it helps us with our learning that we do in class. In French, we were able to visit the animals and got to learn their names in a new language. I love the oiseaux that we have!" - Taim Year 5

"The school farm is such an important resource for our school as it gives students a chance to show leadership capabilities as they become responsible for looking after the different plants and animals. Personally, I have loved being able to visit the rabbits that we have on the farm." - Megan Year 12

"Sustainability is so important in our school, I have been an Eco Leader and had the chance to raise awareness of all the amazing events that take place from Eco Art Month to World Bee Day. In my role, I have been able to show Leadership by speaking on the school radio as well as creating a video to be shared with all of the MTS community to advertise a competition with a sustainable element that took place." - Laiba Year 6
