One such initiative is the launch of our very own Farm Shop — a dynamic space where sustainability, education, and enterprise come together.

We believe that education should not only prepare students for the future but also empower them to make a positive impact both locally and globally. The Farm Shop is an exciting step in that direction.

Your One-Stop Shop for Sustainability

The Metropole Farm Shop is your go-to destination for sustainable living. From fresh, homegrown produce cultivated right here on our school farm — including seasonal fruits and vegetables — to hydroponically grown herbs like basil and mint nurtured by students, every item supports eco-conscious living.

You'll also find a selection of eco-friendly essentials, such as reusable tote bags, bamboo pens and pencils, stainless steel flasks, and more. These items not only promote sustainability but also reflect the entrepreneurial spirit of our students.

This innovative project teaches students about environmental stewardship while equipping them with valuable business and leadership skills — skills that will serve them for life.

Student Leadership in Action

Developing future-ready leaders is a core focus at GEMS Metropole. The MTS Farm Shop is entirely student-led, with a dedicated leadership team managing everything from finances and marketing to procurement and operations.

Our students also manage the online Farm Shop, where families can conveniently order items and have them delivered directly to classrooms or collected from the shop in the main reception.

Through these experiences, students take ownership of their learning and gain hands-on experience in real-world enterprise, collaboration, and responsibility.

Crops to Classrooms: Growing Engagement

Introducing GEMS Metropole Farm Fresh — our dedicated outdoor learning environment. This vibrant space is home to an array of fruits, vegetables, and to the delight of our students — chickens, ducks, and rabbits! With a hydroponics farm and a potting shed, learning continues even in the summer months.

Our farm is more than just a place to grow food — it’s a living classroom. Students explore topics like crop rotation in geography, animal lifecycles in science, and financial planning in maths through hands-on learning experiences.

This engaging environment enhances the curriculum across subjects such as Science, Maths, English, Geography, Business Studies, and Social Development. It also offers tailored opportunities for students with additional needs to thrive in practical, meaningful ways.

Social Responsibility Starts Here

From growing medicinal herbs to cultivating fresh produce, our students take an active role in sustainability. Their work fosters important conversations about social responsibility and the role they can play in creating a better world.

Our Prep and Senior Eco Committees play a vital role in these efforts. These student-led groups have even designed and produced reusable shopping bags that will be sold at our upcoming MTS Farm Stall. This initiative not only showcases student creativity but also deepens their understanding of sustainable enterprise.

Farm visits are a regular part of the school week, with students drawing inspiration for their creative projects, and developing a real passion for sustainability and community engagement.
