Charlotte Curtis
Head of Modern Foreign Languages
My name is Charlotte Curtis, and I am starting my second year in the Modern Foreign Languages department, teaching French and Spanish. I will also be taking over the role of Head of Modern Foreign Languages and am truly excited to lead the very successful MFL department and ensure that all students continue to thrive with their language learning.
I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Foreign Languages at the University of Warwick in 2006. Following this, I went on to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at The University of Hull, and I also have a Masters in Human Rights from University College Dublin.
I have 13 years teaching experience - 7 years in my home country of the UK, and then in international schools in Shanghai and Cairo. I have taught French, German and Spanish in both the UK and US curriculums, and I have taught GCSE, A Level and IB. I was also Second in Department at one of my schools in the UK.
I am extremely passionate about different languages and cultures and am keen to pass this enthusiasm on to my students. I want their language learning to be fun, but also for them to see the value learning a foreign language can bring.
I live in Dubai with my husband and 3-year old daughter. We love travelling as a family and enjoy exploring all the activities and opportunities Dubai has to offer.
As well as travelling and languages, my other great passion is music. I enjoy going to live music concerts and festivals, and also play cello, guitar and sing.
I am very excited to be starting my new role and am looking forward to getting to know more students, parents and colleagues. I feel truly lucky to continue to be a part of the GEMS Metropole community.
